Welcome to Ganesh Academy of Indian Arts

Ganesh Academy of Indian Arts was founded in 1985 in Atlanta, Georgia, as a part of The Arts Exchange, a collective effort of local artists to promote various art forms from around the world. The founder, Melissa Sproul-Singh, had returned from a six-year residential study in India and was excited about sharing her experience of the classical and folk arts of India with other Americans. She wanted to involve the community of Indians living in the USA and other Americans who were interested in the arts of India.

The organization's purpose was to have Indian teachers of dance and music come to teach in the United States. Ganesh Academy has worked closely with The Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society, Nrityashilp, and the Pratibha Sanskritik Sansthan in New Delhi, India. We are currently organizing a Sept.- Oct. 2009 tour of dance performances and workshops by the extra-ordinarily talented daughter of the late Guru Surendra Nath Jena, Pratibha Jena Singh.

Ganesh Academy has provided programs over the years in Atlanta, GA, added programs in 2000 in Knoxville, TN, and, beginning in 2002, in Milledgeville, GA and surrounding areas. These successes have built cultural bridges between America and India, and the progress grows stronger each year.

By 2009, Ganesh Academy had presented programs in Knoxville, Lenoir City, and Nashville TN; Atlanta, Milledgeville, Macon, and Athens GA; Ithaca and Yonkers NY; Black Mountain, Hendersonville, and Asheville NC, and San Francisco CA. Please check for upcoming events by visiting our website or requesting email updates at Ganesh's List.
